This paper analyzes the intervention in the tithe field by the civil authorities and the appearance of the tithe of conscience within the jurisdiction of the Bishopric of Michoacán from 1824 to 1834. According to consulted sources, it is noted that the civil intervention led to the loss of control of the tithes by the authorities of the Bishopric, which accentuated the delays of its collection and distribution. This event, summed to the affectation of the tax on agriculture, led to its extinction as a civil obligation in 1833, reducing considerably the profitability of that matter in the subsequent years.
