HERNANDEZ DAVILA, Carlos Arturo. Courageous soldier and enchanted troubadour: multiple looks at the chinaquería in Mexican cinema in the twentieth century. Sig. his [online]. 2020, vol.22, n.44, pp.146-179. Epub 01-Ago-2022. ISSN 1665-4420.
The purpose of this document is to describe the image of the Chinacos created, disseminated and put into circulation by Mexican cinema between 1937 and 1945. Starting from the dual distinction, we identified the cinematographic character of the “historic” chinaco as “cold”, carrier of patriotic values, while the “passionate” chinaco is identified as a “hot” character, embodiment of passion, love and loyalty. Both Chinese are placed before the eyes of the spectator in a time that claims nationalism in the years immediately before the beginning of the Second World War.
Palabras llave : chinaco; myth; patriotism; french intervention; popular hero.
