NECOECHEA GRACIA, Gerardo. Strike and solidarity in the mining town of Santa Bárbara. Sig. his [online]. 2019, vol.21, n.41, pp.230-258. Epub 03-Ago-2020. ISSN 1665-4420.
Mining workers in Santa Bárbara, Chihuahua, held a strike for nearly a month between May and June, 1975. The conflict initiated due to the unjust amount of profits allocated for employee redistribution by the company Industrial Minera México and when it rejected the union's proposed wage increase. Two distinct circuits of solidarity emerged during the strike: one based on community relations and the other on class and politics, which eventually ended in confrontation. A close look at this local strike brings to light the underlying relations and contradictions that shape everyday life in a working-class community.
