CASTILLO RAMIREZ, Guillermo. The integrationist program during the Cardenismo. Cultural diversity according to Gamio. Sig. his [online]. 2015, vol.17, n.34, pp.78-111. ISSN 1665-4420.
This article explores the integrationist proposals concerning indigenist policies and ethnic-cultural diversity formulated by Gamio in Hacia un México Nuevo (1935), in the context of the government of Cárdenas. First, it analyzes the relationship of Gamio’s book with Lázaro Cárdenas’s government and the project of nation. It describes where Mexico stands in relation to the rest of the American countries. Afterwards, it inquires into the appraisals of ethnic heterogeneity and the indigenous ways of life in the context of the modernization promoted by the State. Finally, this article shows the mutual dependency relationships between nationalism, politics and anthropology.
