PEREZ-MARTINEZ, A. et al. Procedure to deal process design tasks in the sugar industry and its derivatives. Rev. Mex. Ing. Quím [online]. 2012, vol.11, n.2, pp.333-349. ISSN 1665-2738.
Process design is an open research field in chemical engineering. This project focuses on the description of the sequential proceduresteps for a chemical process design. An optimal technological alternative is arrived to by considering technical, environmental and economic factors in a heuristic approach. These criteria are easily quantified and permit to establish designer's decisions. The identification of these steps take into account some precedents about process design made by Ulrich and comparison with some sequential heuristic procedures considering design during the whole process. Finally, a case study example dealing with the an animal feedstuff production derived from sub-products of the sugar cañe industry is provided. It is concluded that the sequential procedure allowed for an optimum technological alternative. The technical, economics and environmental criteria could be quantified using software such as MATLAB and EXCEL.
