This paper describes the results of the implementation of a didactic proposal for the understanding of the concept of similarity of triangles in pre-university. The theoretical and methodological foundation was based on the contributions of problem solving seen as an object of teaching, on the use of GeoGebra software as a heuristic resource and on the processes of understanding mathematical concepts.

As a result of the implementation of the proposal, it was identified that through the scope of the understanding stages, the students were able to identify that the conditions given as premises and through their treatment mediated using the software allowed them to establish the requirements of the approach, which allows establishing that in this process the conditions for the understanding of the concept of similarity of triangles were generated. This work contributes with a proposal different from the classical one for the teaching and learning activity of this content at the indicated level.
