This article develops a systematic evaluation of the theory of internal colonialism proposed by Pablo González Casanova for the understanding of the social reality of Latin American countries. In this way, rebuilds the concept on two levels. First, attends attend to the connection between internal colonialism and the general problem of colonialism, later, examines the uses of this category for the interpretation of the historical processes in our region.The hypothesis is that the conceptualization tends to focus mainly on a methodological level. Because of that, their consequences for colonialism theory are not sufficiently developed and the links between internal and external colonialism are blurred.
