New professionals are increasingly faced, at younger ages, with financial decisions that can compromise their economic stability. Using descriptive statistics and regression models, this study investigates the empirical relationship between financial and quantitative training acquired at university and the self-perceived and observed levels of financial literacy. The results show that both types of training (along with certain economic factors) influence the levels of financial literacy, but this effect is greater in the case of financial training. In addition, students often underestimate their financial capabilities due to insufficient knowledge, which may lead them to compensate through their behavior and attitudes. These findings highlight the importance of promoting financial culture by higher education institutions as part of their commitment to providing comprehensive training.
