The article describes the research methods and main findings of a documental study based on publications in the field of instructional innovation and educational technology in three states of Northwest Mexico. The objective was to gather, select, organize, and examine the publications developed between 1991 and 2002 on the topic. The study was part of the state of the art of educational research in Mexico coordinated by the Mexican Council of Educational Research.
