This paper analyzes the public financing of education in Chile, after twenty years of application of the current model of subsidy of the demand. From here a change proposal is formulated looking forward to correcting or reducing the detected problems, specially those linked to the need to take into account an unequal socioeconomic reality as well as the existence of an imperfect educational market.
