BEZERRA-LUCENA, Jamerson. The Potiguara on the Way to the Patch: The Economic Functions of Potiguara Indigenous Households. Desacatos [online]. 2020, n.62, pp.100-113. Epub 27-Ene-2025. ISSN 2448-5144. https://doi.org/10.29340/62.2202.
In this article I analyze the economic actions carried out by indigenous Potiguara households from Paraíba, Brazil. I study their strategies to produce and reproduce the groups, on the basis of the Potiguara ethnicity, and the marketing of surplus agricultural products in the market system. Ethnographic data based on a detailed case study reveal the strategies for rational economic action. In the city, it assumes an impersonality and in the village the reciprocity prevails to strength ties of kinship. In short, the way in which each domestic group is organized will depend on a set of experiences and will trigger its social network with external actors, showing the importance of the social role and status they hold in power relations.
