PALACIOS RAMIREZ, José. The Construction of a Recovering Alcoholic: Reflections about the Study of an Alcoholic Anonymous in Northern Mexico. Desacatos [online]. 2009, n.29, pp.47-68. ISSN 2448-5144.
This paper focuses on the process of individual transformation that takes place within an Alcoholics Anonymous group. It also tries to analyze the way in which an alcoholic is constructed in an AA group and, therefore, the way in which alcoholism is understood within the therapeutic program that enables the process for reversing the stigma attached to alcoholism. The paper grants special attention to AA's spiritual dimension and its role in the process, in which the link with a moral view of reality is essential. Finally, it proposes some theoretical developments about the way in which the above mentioned change takes place in a symbolic level through the construction of a social drama and ritualization mechanisms.
