Resumen
BAUTISTA-MAYORGA, Fidel et al. Tourism as a consumer of water: the case of hotels in Tijuana (México). Econ. soc. territ [online]. 2024, vol.24, n.75, e2040. Epub 18-Feb-2025. ISSN 2448-6183. https://doi.org/10.22136/est20242040.
The article estimated the average annual water consumption in Tijuana hotels from 1992 to 2021, and, from economic theory, analyzed some determinants of consumption, considering the same period. We applied a formula to estimate consumption and proposed a multiple linear regression to analyze the determinants. The results indicate an average, maximum and minimum annual water consumption of 356,755 m3, 459,838 m3 and 193,741 m3, respectively. On the other hand, the factor that most influences water consumption is income: if this increases 10%, consumption increases 3.4%.
