Abstract
CUSTODIO GONZALEZ, Carlos Alejandro. Reconfiguration of agricultural activities in Mexico (1980-2015): an approach from spatial statistics. Econ. soc. territ [online]. 2023, vol.23, n.72, pp.521-546. Epub June 16, 2023. ISSN 2448-6183. https://doi.org/10.22136/est20231852.
This paper investigates, from a spatial approach, the productive effects of public policies aimed at promoting rural development in Mexico, in the context of economic liberalization. By combining two quantitative methods: Principal Component Analysis and Spatial Autocorrelation, we identified a process of productive reconfiguration during the period 1980-2015, resulting from the reconversion towards more profitable agricultural crops. This was reflected in two spatial expressions: 1) the existence of spatial agglomerations oriented towards cocoa and ornamental plants; and 2) the spatial fragmentation of the agricultural conglomerate dedicated to the production of basic grains.
Keywords : productive effects; spatial dimension; principal component analysis; spatial autocorrelation.
