Abstract

VILCHIS MATA, Iván. Tradeoffs evaluation among urban ecosystem services at the megalopolitan scale. Econ. soc. territ [online]. 2019, vol.19, n.61, pp.339-371.  Epub May 26, 2020. ISSN 2448-6183.  https://doi.org/10.22136/est20191376.

Moving towards sustainable development requires understanding urban ecosystem services (UES). This work applies hierarchical and multi-criteria tradeoffs analysis to evaluate and explain the exchange relationships between UES: water, air, and climate produced and supported by the urban socio-ecological system in five major metropolitan areas of the Megalopolis of the Metropolitan Area of the Valley of México (MZMVM) during 2010-2016. The preference for UES supply is revealed over UES regulation (temporarily, spatially or interpersonally). Therefore, the importance of supporting decision-making in the formulation of public policies is highlighted.

Keywords : tradeoffs; urban ecosystem services; megalopolis; cities; sustainability.
