Abstract

KIDO-CRUZ, Antonio  and  KIDO-CRUZ, Ma. Teresa. Economic convergence at southern Mexico: a municipal analysis for the 1990-2010 period. Econ. soc. territ [online]. 2015, vol.15, n.49, pp.697-722. ISSN 2448-6183.

This paper tests the hypothesis of convergence between the growth of per capita income and an initial per capita income. Sigma and beta convergence diagrams are generated and conditional beta convergence regression is estimated at the municipal level in four states of Mexico: Chiapas, Guerrero, Michoacan and Oaxaca for the 1990-2010 period, twenty years after NAFTA. The results suggest evidence against the convergence hypothesis both absolute and conditional.

Keywords : economic convergence; south region; NAFTA; per capita income.
