Abstract

GONZALEZ-BECERRIL, Juan Gabino; MUNOZ-JUMILLA, Alma Rosa  and  JUAREZ-TOLEDO, Rafael. The receipt of monetary remittances and its implications for poverty in Mexico, 2020. Pap. poblac [online]. 2024, vol.30, n.119, e20579.  Epub Feb 17, 2025. ISSN 2448-7147.  https://doi.org/10.22185/24487147.2024.119.05.

The article aims to demonstrate that the monetary remittances sent by migrants of Mexican origin, mainly from the United States, constitute an important source of economic resources from abroad that function as buffers against poverty in the households receiving these resources. which have been taken as the basis of analysis. Thus, by calculating probabilities obtained with a logistic regression exercise, for seven dimensions of analysis (household, demography, housing services, housing tenure, technology, hunger and geographical position), the probability or inclination that these households are located in a condition of poverty was analyzed. The differences found between households by virtue of geographical and demographic factors, asset ownership and provision of services; have made it possible to locate the combination of elements that increase the probability of being placed in poverty.

Keywords : Remittances; probabilities; economy; poverty.
