ROSERO-CEBALLOS, Elsy Lorena  e  MENDOZA-COTA, Jorge Eduardo. Incident factors in the wage gaps between the Colombian and U.S. immigrantpopulation. Pap. poblac [online]. 2023, vol.29, n.118, pp.99-123.  Epub 04-Fev-2025. ISSN 2448-7147.  https://doi.org/10.22185/24487147.2023.118.29.

The United States is often seen as an attractive destination for migrants from around the world, especially from Latin America. However, the country's labor market is characterized by wage inequalities among different population groups. This paper examines the factors contributing to wage gaps between Colombian immigrants and the U.S. population, specifically non-Hispanic native-born whites and African Americans. By using data from the American Community Survey 2018, we identify the existence of wage gaps through Oaxaca's (1973) decomposition. Our findings suggest that wage gaps between Colombian immigrants and non-Hispanic native whites persist even after controlling for differences in education level and occupation type. These gaps may be attributed to unequal treatment of these population groups.
