SOBRINO-FIGUEROA, Luis Jaime. Intrametropolitan residential mobility in Mexico, 2000-2020. Pap. poblac [online]. 2023, vol.29, n.115, pp.97-117. Epub 29-Nov-2024. ISSN 2448-7147. https://doi.org/10.22185/24487147.2023.115.05.
Residential mobility consists of the change of address within a city or a metropolitan area. This document studies the main characteristics of residential mobility in the metropolitan areas of Mexico, highlighting the points of origin and destination of the flows. To carry out the analysis, information from the microdata of the 2000, 2010 and 2020 population and housing censuses is used. Additionally, the exercise of delimitation of metropolitan areas in 2020 carried out by Isela Orihuela and Jaime Sobrino is taken as a reference, according to in which the country had 62 metropolitan areas in that year, in which 338 municipalities participated (Orihuela and Sobrino, 2023). The results show that the intensity of intra-metropolitan residential mobility has been decreasing over time, in addition to the fact that the intensity is associated with the population size of the metropolitan agglomeration. Households carry out residential mobility mainly to adjust the characteristics and needs of their home where they live.
