Abstract
LOPEZ-GIRON, Carlos and MARTINEZ-VELASCO, Germán. Labor trajectories and international indigenous migration in Chiapas. Pap. poblac [online]. 2022, vol.28, n.111, pp.77-110. Epub Sep 19, 2022. ISSN 2448-7147. https://doi.org/10.22185/24487147.2022.111.04.
This article analyzes the labor trajectories of a group of returnees from indigenous regions of Chiapas with the objective of knowing the occupational sequences, mobilities and continuities that are present from the place of origin in the pre-migration phase, in their labor trajectory in the United States and even in their return. To this end, the study followed the trajectory of four subsets of individuals who migrated to the United States and returned to their communities of origin, from whom information was obtained through ethnographic interviews. As a result, different trajectories can be seen in which, although agriculture still plays a major role as a generator of employment in both the place of origin and destination, new generations of individuals whose labor destiny transitions to other different sectors of activity in both work contexts can also be glimpsed.
