This paper analyzes the relationship between different measures of employment and unemployment and the productive activity in México over the period 1994-2021, allowing for structural changes. By using a perspective based on the notions of the classical and growth cycles, our main results suggest that structural changes occur around the Great Recession and after the labor reform of 2012 and that the labor conditions improve with productive activity and vice versa. Nonetheless, there is evidence about the generation of less and more unstable job positions and the worsening of labor conditions (critical and informal) when production growth decreases.
