GUTIERREZ VAZQUEZ, Edith Yolanda; GARCIA BATIZ, María Luisa; SANCHEZ BERNAL, Antonio e ROSAS ARELLANO, Jarumy. Methodology for Analyzing The Effects of Postgraduate Studies in Mexican Universities. RMIE [online]. 2026, vol.31, n.108, pp.133-160. Epub 12-Mar-2026. ISSN 1405-6666.
This article proposes a strategy for identifying and analyzing the direct and indirect effects of postgraduate studies on economic, sociodemographic, and academic outcomes. It examines the impact of postgraduate studies on regional development, particularly in Mexico. The analysis focuses on two perspectives: 1) it examines how universities influence the development and quality of postgraduate programs, and 2) it proposes how to investigate the effects of these programs on the professional trajectories of graduates and their environment. A flexible mixed-methods approach was used, combining quantitative and qualitative techniques to measure effects across three subsystems: economic, sociodemographic and environmental, and scientific and technological. In addition, the use of indicators at the state, regional, and local levels is proposed, with temporal estimates to capture cumulative effects. The article helps fill a research gap on the impacts of graduate studies in Mexico, offering a comprehensive model for evaluating their contributions to development.
