ARIAS ORTEGA, Miguel Ángel. Social Representations of Environmental Issues among University Students: Approaches and Perspectives from the Autonomous University of Mexico City. RMIE [online]. 2025, vol.30, n.107, pp.977-1006. Epub 09-Dez-2025. ISSN 1405-6666.
This article presents the results of a study that explored, from the theoretical and methodological perspective of social representations, how students at the Autonomous University of Mexico City refer to, interpret, and act on environmental issues. It is a qualitative and interpretive study based on a 16-question open-ended survey answered by 125 students using Google Forms. The results suggest that there is a simple social representation with a low level of analysis and development regarding the complexity of the problem and its negative consequences. The students expressed feelings of sadness, anger, and rage when referring to it, as well as their pessimism about the outlook for socio-environmental phenomena. This is highly relevant to the institution's objectives and the professional training of its students.
