Abstract

AGUIRRE CARREON, Claudia Nelly  and  MIRELES VARGAS, Olivia. Social Representation of In-service Training: Secondary School Teachers in the Context of the New Mexican School. RMIE [online]. 2025, vol.30, n.106, pp.871-895.  Epub Aug 22, 2025. ISSN 1405-6666.

The purpose of this paper is to examine the contents and organization of the social representation of in-service training among secondary school teachers in the framework of the New Mexican School. The methodology to access the beliefs of this group located in Coahuila, Mexico, was of a mixed type. The authors present the first results derived from a word association exercise -systematized using the technique of natural semantic networks- and from a questionnaire of closed and open-ended questions, which was used to carry out a content analysis. The results showed that the representation of in-service training is mainly rooted in an instrumental approach, and that more systematic and conclusive actions are needed to strengthen the shift outlined in the new model.

Keywords : continuing education; teacher professional development; compulsory secondary education; social representation.
