RUIZ MUNOZ, María Mercedes e ALVAREZ GIL, María Fernanda. Education and the Covid-19 Pandemic: School Dropout, Disconnection or Estrangement?. RMIE [online]. 2024, vol.29, n.102, pp.731-750. Epub 14-Out-2024. ISSN 1405-6666.
This article analyzes how the Covid-19 pandemic impacted the school path, and induced distancing and disconnection of adolescents in two public high schools and one community center in the town of Santa Fe, a neighborhood of Mexico City. Case studies were carried out to provide an account of how adolescents experienced the pandemic and the return to face-to-face classes, for which in-depth interviews and focus groups were conducted. The theory that underpins this work allowed us to move away from the concepts of school dropout or school abandonment to construct the notion of school disconnection as an intermediate category that emerges from the data. The research reports results about academic and socioemotional problems, as well as the construction of knowledge for life such as self-care and care for others.
