OROZCO-RODRIGUEZ, Claudia. Factors that Influence Dropping Out of Undergraduate Mathematics at Universidad de Guadalajara. RMIE [online]. 2022, vol.27, n.92, pp.259-287. Epub 14-Mar-2022. ISSN 1405-6666.
The undergraduate degree in mathematics has one of the highest dropout rates at Universidad de Guadalajara (Mexico). This is a worrisome scenario due to the economic and social costs it generates. The objective of this study is to analyze the effects of socioeconomic level, vocational counseling, psychological help and guidance, institutional satisfaction, and previous education on students' dropping out of the undergraduate major in mathematics. To attain this goal, a multiple binary logistic regression model was generated from 246 responses to a questionnaire completed by graduates, active students, and dropouts. It was identified that unfavorable socioeconomic conditions and the good quality of vocational counseling and teaching services are the main aspects that favor academic persistence.
