Abstract

CUEVAS, Yazmín. Mexico's Law of 2019 for Careers in Elementary School Teaching: Changes, Continuities, and Challenges. RMIE [online]. 2021, vol.26, n.89, pp.475-502.  Epub June 04, 2021. ISSN 1405-6666.

The purpose of this article is to analyze Mexico's regulations for elementary school teachers. The study is based on the concept of teachers' careers, their focuses and phases, through which the General Law of the System for Careers in Teaching (2019) was reviewed. The results emphasize that the regulations respond to the need to value teachers, who considered the previous career system (from 2013) to be punitive. The career regulations of 2019 are focused on merit. One of their novel aspects is the stage of recognition, so that teachers and principals temporarily exercise functions of tutoring, advising, and administration. The primary challenge that the system faces is implementation.
