Resumen
BELLO BENAVIDES, Laura Odila y CRUZ SANCHEZ, Gloria Elena. University Professors on Climate Change. An Approach through Their Social Representations. RMIE [online]. 2020, vol.25, n.87, pp.1069-1101. Epub 19-Feb-2021. ISSN 1405-6666.
The purpose of the study was to compare how professors from four academic areas (Technical, Economics/Administration, Health Science, and Humanities) at Universidad Veracruzana, in the Poza Rica-Tuxpan region, represent climate change as well as their actions related to climate change in their academic activity. The research was of a mixed type. We obtained the quantitative data from an ad-hoc questionnaire of 45 items completed by a representative sample of faculty members. For the qualitative data, we employed focus groups. The results reveal faculty representations that distinguish anthropic influences (primarily due to the use of fossil fuels) in climate change, the regional risks that are made more severe by climate change, and the incorporation of topics related to climate change in their academic activities. We identified few significant differences in the representations of professors from the indicated groups.
