NAVARRETE-CAZALES, Zaira. Identity Again?: A Necessary but Impossible Concept. RMIE [online]. 2015, vol.20, n.65, pp.461-479. ISSN 1405-6666.
In recent years, the term, identity, has been the object of conceptual analysis, re-deconstructions, and semantic re-discussions within various disciplines; in most cases, criticism is made of the notion of an authentic, original, and unique metaphysical identity. At the present time, identity continues to be an epistemological topic and problem on which various theorists from diverse disciplinary origins have reflected. The objective of this study is to de-sediment the concept of identity, by means of an historical tour through several disciplines that have discussed the topic. Supported by the theoretical perspective of the Discourse Theory and Political Analysis, we assume the notion of identity as an aporetic concept in that it has the condition of simultaneous need and impossibility.
