Resumo

This article presents a doctoral project in Children's Studies, with a specialty in the area of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT), carried out at Minho-Portugal University from September, 2005, to May, 2009. The purpose of the project, carried out at Comunidad @rcaComum (http://www.arcacomum.pt), has been to discover ways of integrating ICT into the self-training of early childhood teachers, and into the practices developed in contexts of early childhood education (preschool). Our intent is to present a brief conceptual framework of the society of information and knowledge and the relevance of ICT in educational contexts, followed by an exhaustive description of the creation of the @rcaComum community of practice, as well as the tools, activities, and interests for teachers at this educational level.
