GONZALEZ-REYES, Rodrigo. La internet como espacio de producción de capital social: una reflexión en torno a la idea de comunidad informal de aprendizaje. RMIE [online]. 2009, vol.14, n.40, pp.175-190. ISSN 1405-6666.
By eliminating the traditional barriers between time and space, the Internet has articulated new forms of establishing both formal and informal networks of exchange. This article proposes examining the educational potential of the Internet in terms of its ability to construct communities of learning, in light of the equally recent focus on social capital, a theoretical tendency attentive to the connective and associative principles of social networks in attaining individual and collective goals. The substantial, revolutionary aspect of this platform resides in its ability to decentralize the institutional part of the process and enable diverse forms of teaching as well as learning; many of them are fundamentally informal, extrascholastic, and mediated by the ordinary, pragmatic motivations of the individuals who use them.
