This article presents a review of research and experience in special education in Spain during the past ten years. The purpose of the article is to address current and future thematic lines in this area of knowledge. We start by determining the major paradigmatic and methodological questions asked throughout the development of special education, as well as the criticism of research. We continue by looking at various reviews completed since the mid-1980s, centering on the thematic areas that can be attributed with the highest degree of definition or consistency. We include lines of research that have an outstanding emergent position at the present time, and conclude the article by establishing proposals.
