Abstract

GARCIA-MATEOS, Rosario; SOTO-HERNANDEZ, Marcos; ZAVALA-CHAVEZ, Fernando  and  KITE, Geofrey. Quinolizidine alkaloids in Calia secundiflora (FABACEAE). Agrociencia [online]. 2007, vol.41, n.2, pp.161-167. ISSN 2521-9766.

The purpose of this study was to compare the alkaloid profile in different tissues analyzed by GC/MS and to contribute to the ecological knowledge of Calia secundiflora (patol). Samples of leaves, root and seeds of patol (mescal bean) were collected and field information was recorded in the States of Hidalgo and Querétaro, México, using the point-centered quarted method. Species dominance was calculated (value of importance) and the two locations were compared in species richness, similarity index, and soil data. Seventeen species of plants were found in Hidalgo and 21 in Querétaro; Flourensia resinosa and patol dominated the vegetation in Hidalgo, while patol and Dodonaea viscosa dominated in Querétaro. The profile of the quinolizidine alkaloids of the samples from Hidalgo was different from that of Querétaro. In the Hidalgo samples, a larger number of structures were identified, of which some had not been detected before in C. secundiflora.

Keywords : Dodonaea viscosa; Flourensia resinosa; ecology; fabaceae; habitat; toxicity.
