Abstract
PEREZ-LUIS, Josefa Itzel et al. Plant species known as camorreal in San Pedro El Alto, Oaxaca, Mexico. Polibotánica [online]. 2024, n.58, pp.251-264. Epub Oct 22, 2024. ISSN 1405-2768. https://doi.org/10.18387/polibotanica.58.18.
San Pedro El Alto is a community that belongs to the Zapotec ethnic group and has a great biological richness; its inhabitants have knowledge about the use of medicinal plants. The aim was establishing the identity and nature of the uses given to the different plants known locally as camorreal. The growth sites and the type of vegetation where they are found naturally were located. Botanical collections were made of the species that the villagers call camorreal indistinctly, which were identified in the CHAPA Herbarium-Hortory of the Colegio de Postgraduados, Mexico. In addition, semi-structured interviews were conducted with 62 people from the community to document the way in which they are used and the criteria they use to differentiate them. As a result, the botanical identity of five species of camorreal was established: Asclepias circinalis (Decne.) Woodson, Asclepias melantha Decne, Iostephane trilobata Hemsl, Lobelia hartwegii Benth. ex A.DC and Psacalium paucicapitatum (B.L.Rob. & Greenm.) H.Rob. & Brettell, all associated with the pine-oak vegetation; all with medicinal use, of which Lobelia hartwegii Benth. ex A.DC is the most important species with local use for the inhabitants of the community.
