GONZALEZ CAMACHO, Giovani e HERRERA TAPIA, Francisco. Forestry Public Policies: A Comparative Analysis between Mexico and Colombia. Convergencia [online]. 2026, vol.33, e26275. Epub 24-Abr-2026. ISSN 2448-5799. https://doi.org/10.29101/crcs.v33i0.26275.
This study analyzes the similarities and differences in the implementation of forestry public policies in Mexico and Colombia. Using a comparative public policy approach, policies were classified into six categories: conservation, restoration, sustainable use, protection, agroforestry systems, and research. The analysis draws on statistical data from the forestry institutions of both countries. The results indicate that Mexico allocates most of its forestry budget to conservation and restoration programs, whereas Colombia concentrates the largest share of its budget on conservation. In terms of forest cover dynamics, Mexico exhibits an increasing trend in deforestation, while Colombia shows a declining trend. These findings suggest that both countries should strengthen investment in agroforestry systems, as they represent a key strategy for addressing the main threat to forest areas: the expansion of agricultural activities.
