GALENDE, Alexandra Ainz. The Enlightened Narcissist: Symbolic Violence, Affective Prestige, and Covert Exclusion in the Workplace. Convergencia [online]. 2026, vol.33, e26238. Epub 16-Mar-2026. ISSN 2448-5799. https://doi.org/10.29101/crcs.v33i0.26238.
This article analyzes contemporary forms of symbolic violence in the workplace, focusing on their affective, relational, and performative dimensions. Based on an online focus group with professionals from various sectors, it examines practices of emotional exclusion, symbolic manipulation, and selective affective legitimacy. The study introduces the concept of the enlightened narcissist as an analytical category to understand non-hierarchical forms of relational power grounded in symbolic prestige, technocratic courtesy, and strategic recognition. The findings reveal how these forms of violence undermine professional self-esteem, access to opportunities, and a sense of belonging, even in formally democratic environments. The article concludes that naming such subtle forms of violence constitutes a form of epistemic and emotional resistance that challenges institutional silence and makes visible the symbolic architecture of harm.
