The analysis of temporal variations in ideological and partisan identity requires an in-depth exploration of their explanatory factors. This study examines two key determinants of political identification: the historical-biographical contexts of socialization and the influence of critical social moments that activate ideology. A longitudinal analysis is conducted using survey data from the Centro de Investigaciones Sociológicas (CIS) in Spain between 2005 and 2019. The results show that the population is divided into three political generations, each following similar directional trends in ideological and partisan identity, although differences in identification intensity are observed. Peaks of activation occur during politically significant moments. These findings highlight the role of socialization and contextual political events in shaping long-term political identity, contributing to a broader understanding of the dynamics of ideological and partisan attachment.
