PARRA GORRIZ, Mary Kriss y AHUACTZIN MARTINEZ, Carlos Enrique. Party Identification and Voting Behavior among Young People in the Metropolitan Area of Puebla. Convergencia [online]. 2026, vol.33, e26836. Epub 30-Jun-2026. ISSN 2448-5799. https://doi.org/10.29101/crcs.v33i0.26836.
The study analyzes the construction of partisan identification among university students in the metropolitan area of Puebla, Mexico. Based on studies on electoral behavior and political socialization, a case study was conducted using multiple regression models to delve into the factors that generate partisan affiliation among young people and their parents. The results indicate that this relationship occurs in only 22% of cases. However, the coincidence in the partisan identification of both parents is the most relevant factor for the development of partisan identification in their children, even if it is not necessarily with the same party. Additionally, this variable plays a key role in young people's participation in electoral processes. Finally, the findings show that partisan identification is not significantly related to electoral participation or voting behavior.
