A detailed reading of Ortelli's work allows us to distinguish the particular use of certain analytical concepts, such as the case of infidelity and enemy, as well as a somewhat imprecise category of space. This essay tries to put into perspective whether these concepts are adequate for the interpretation of a period characterized by an atmosphere of belligerence and hostility, in addition to a careful re-reading of the historical documents used by Sara Ortelli herself in her study.
