COVARRUBIAS-GOMEZ, Alfredo et al. Role of B vitamins in pain management. Rev. mex. anestesiol. [online]. 2025, vol.48, n.4, pp.248-255. Epub 30-Ene-2026. ISSN 0484-7903. https://doi.org/10.35366/121401.
Introduction:
B vitamins are a group of eight water-soluble vitamins that participate in catabolic and anabolic functions related to neuro-immunohumoral regulation. They are obtained from most foods, especially those of animal origin, legumes and cereals. Over the years they have been assigned an analgesic role. This review aims to identify this possible association.
Material and methods:
a search was carried out on the PubMed platform with four different iterations. The search results are presented in this document.
Results:
vitamins B deficiency has shown an association with painful conditions. In some conditions supplementation is recommended. Excess pyridoxine is associated with neuropathy.
Conclusions:
both the deficiency of B vitamins and their excess can cause neuropathies, some of them may be sensitive. Although supplementation for analgesic purposes seems to be recommended, over supplementation should be avoided.
