It is a literature review article, and the information search was carried out with the PICO model, including in the database the following search engines SciELO, OVID, PubMed, ScienceDirect, Web of Science, Scopus and SpringerLink. The bibliography search was of open date, English and Spanish language, of systematized, prospective, randomized and controlled review articles. Overweight and obesity represent a global disease. It is estimated that two billion human beings suffer from it. Obesity is associated with cardiovascular disease, diabetes, cancer, kidney disease, sleep apnea, anxiety and depression. Bariatric surgery stands out as an effective and long-lasting solution for weight loss. Optimal postoperative pain management is crucial due to the morbidities that this population presents. The ERAS (Enhanced Recovery After Surgery) guidelines recommend reduction in opioid use to promote improved recovery after surgery. Ultrasound-guided erector spinae block (ESPB UG) is a regional technique where local anesthetic is deposited in the fascial plane of the erector spinae. In recent literature, its usefulness in bariatric surgery is reported, indicating potential benefits in controlling post-surgical pain and reducing the use of opioids. The present review aims to present updated data on its usefulness in the effectiveness of postoperative analgesia in bariatric surgery. We will describe the technique and the different proposals for drugs, doses and adjuvants.
