In response to the upsurge of violence precipitated by Mexico's war on drug-trafficking a number of groups of civilian activists have joined in a concerted effort to promote the public acknowledgment of the body counts as human losses rather than abstract numbers or collateral damage. This paper analyses the process by which the sensitive and emotive experiences fostered by some of these strategies developed during 2010 and 2011 give form to a shared outrage that expresses and articulates losses, issues and problems that both the State and the society at large refuse to acknowledge.
