This manuscript explores religious subjectivities and positionings on sexual and reproductive rights in a group of young men and women living in Mexico City and active in four religious traditions: Catholic, Presbyterian, Evangelical and Muslim. Sixteen semi-structured interviews with two women and two men from each tradition were conducted. The results point to a plurality of stances among the youth in each tradition and a corresponding set of complex subjectivities that can be located in more than one position alongside an analytical continuum. The conclusions suggest further research on the types of polarization in youth subjectivities, differences towards sexual and reproductive rights by gender and religion, as well as research on the historical and/or institutional structures that may shape the youth’s relative autonomy and self-reflexivity. These conclusions are considered crucial especially in Latin American societies such as the Mexican -constitutionally secular yet persistently prone to religious beliefs.
