CALDERON-RIVERA, Edith. Affectivity. A methodological approach. Alteridades [online]. 2025, vol.35, n.69, pp.111-122.  Epub 25-Ago-2025. ISSN 2448-850X.  https://doi.org/10.24275/fisy9252.

This article has the objective of answering questions that colleagues and students have asked me, throughout three decades, about how, when and why we should study the mood, the states of mind, the emotions, the passions, the sentiments and the affects. This work has four parts. In the first one I justify the creation of new methodological and epistemological approaches for the affective. After that, I summarise what has been proposed as the Affective Dimension. Later on, I analyse theoretically and methodologically the place that has been occupied by the emotions of classical anthropologists in their process of knowing the affectivity of their study subjects during field work. Finally, theoretically and methodologically I suggest a series of steps that would be useful for the development of the studious of the affectivity, and I propose the inclusion of the figure of external-observer and the process of auto-reflexivity of the social scientist as essential for the study of affectivity.

Palavras-chave : emotions; methodology; intimacy; anthropology; self-reflexivity; external-observer.
