Resumen
FRIGOLE, Joan. Genocide and Procreation. Alteridades [online]. 2009, vol.19, n.38, pp.95-105. ISSN 2448-850X.
This paper's aim is to examine the relationship between genocide and procreation from a comparative perspective, focusing on three cases of genocide survivors (Australian, Argentinean, and German), and the reconstitution of their contexts. An additional objective is to examine the concepts of cultural genocide and pre-modern genocide in relation to the following dichotomies: biological/cultural, physical/social, and material/symbolic. In the study of procreation, the consideration of the relationship between culture and biology is pivotal to its analysis because of the importance in defining the human individual and as a basis for the definition of genocide that integrates both physical and symbolic violence (massive homicide, forced sterilization, abduction and dispersal of children, as well as forced cultural assimilation).
