Abstract

MAURO GUTIERREZ, Alejandro. Hegel’s Plato: Private Property and Subjective Freedom. Tópicos (México) [online]. 2024, n.69, pp.85-117.  Epub Aug 16, 2024. ISSN 0188-6649.  https://doi.org/10.21555/top.v690.2509.

In this paper, I analyze Hegel’s interpretation of Plato’s political philosophy (specially the Republic) in certain passages of two specific works: Grundlinien der Philosophie des Rechts and Die Vorlesungen über Platon. I consider two axes of analysis: private property and subjective freedom. The main goal of the paper is to describe the relationship that Hegel establishes with Plato, or at least with the Republic. I show that this dialogue presents nuances with respect to the two axes mentioned and that these nuances imply differences of analysis regarding the Hegelian reading.

Keywords : Plato; Hegel; private property; subjective freedom.
