CALETTI ZUNIGA, Xitlali Mai et al. Psychosocial support: emotional disclosure and regulation to promote well-being in informal primary caregivers. Acta univ [online]. 2026, vol.36, e4419. Epub 07-Ago-2026. ISSN 2007-9621. https://doi.org/10.15174/au.2026.4419.
Informal primary caregivers (IPCs) are individuals who care for someone with chronic illness without receiving payment or professional training, which can generate stress and affect their physical, emotional, and social well-being. This study evaluated how to intervene to reduce stress and promote well-being in such caregivers, using a pre-post intervention design. The results show that the interventions were effective in reducing stress and improving subjective well-being (p < 0.05), with a moderate impact on positive affect and a large impact on calmness. However, sociocultural and family factors limit the impact on physical and social well-being. The importance of implementing psychosocial interventions directly in the environment of these caregiving individuals is discussed, since they are normally only provided when the dependent patient is institutionalized.
