Abstract

Based on the interpretation of aerial photographs of different dates and a collection of ancient nautic maps, from the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, evidence of changes along the Nayarit littoral during the last centuries is detected. Accumulative processes have taken place atona Matanchén Bay during the last 50 years reaching its maximum during 19451970. Such processes have modified the shoreline configuration, embracing the islands to the south of the bay, increasing the beach strip, and allowing the formation of beach-ridges. During the 1970-1993 period, a different process has taken place: the accumulative process has been reversed to an erosional process.
