This paper is focussed to explain the Mean Index Coefficient methodology as an useful way to classify a set of territorial units in terms of one index developed from several variables. With this technique is also possible the quick determination of particular differences between units qualified as "very similar" or the similarities into units wich was qualified as "very different" in a general context. It represents an advantage over other multivariate techniques commonly applied in social and regional analysis.
