In the contemporary world, Decoloniality is both a way of thinking and a practice which contributes in a significant and direct manner to the long struggle of indigenous peoples to free themselves from the colonial order, and to regain their own cultures and ancient territories. Among the many facets of this struggle in Latin America, the native artistic expressions stand out as part of the cultural revitalization movement. This article analyses briefly the theoretical, historical, and ideological contexts of this decolonial movement, focusing on the emergence of a Mayan literature, and with its spirit aimed to transgress the hegemonic literary canon.
